The UVA Alumni Association and PBC Guru have partnered to create a virtual book club for UVA alumni featuring the work of UVA alumnae authors. The book club will connect through a private online forum where participants can discuss the current book and engage with each other. Joining is completely free - all you need to participate is a copy of each book to enjoy. The book club will read one book every two months to allow plenty of time to fit reading into your schedule.

Below, you will find examples of the books we plan to read. Corner Book Club members can recommend additional titles by UVA alumnae and will have the opportunity to vote between several options for each reading period. This will allow us to read the books you are most interested in the order you want to read them!

No, participation is free.
All alumnae and alumni are welcome to participate.
You can pick up books at your local library, or purchase books in whatever format you prefer.
The Corner Book Club will have a moderator from PBC Guru who manages the online forum and book discussions. Your moderator will pose questions to book club members, share relevant articles, and facilitate conversation about topics in the book. Book club members are encouraged to post and share as well. This format allows for ongoing conversation and makes it easy for readers to connect with each other. You might catch some of our alumnae authors on the forum throughout the year as well!
The Corner Book Club uses a private forum to host the virtual book club discussion. When you sign up for the book club, you will enter information to create your forum profile and password. After you complete the sign up process, we'll send you a link to the forum so you can access it right away.
Discussion leaders are book club members who help initiate and advance our weekly discussions.
Participants can sign up to be discussion leaders during sign up. Additionally, each time we begin a new reading period, you will receive an email asking if you'd like to become/continue being a discussion leader for our new book club selection. If you are interested in being a discussion leader but do not have the time during a call for volunteers, you can always sign up to be a discussion leader for a future reading period.
The time commitment for being a discussion leader is roughly 10-15 minutes per week. As a discussion leader, we ask that you aim to:
