The Georgetown University Alumni Association has partnered with PBC Guru to create virtual book clubs for Georgetown alumni. The book clubs will allow participants to connect through private forums for discussions and networking. Joining is completely free - the only requirement is obtaining a copy of the book. The book clubs will read one book every two months—leaving plenty of time to fully immerse yourself in the book selection!
Connect with fellow Georgetown alumni and friends: Joining one of our virtual book clubs will help you learn and grow with fellow alumni while expanding your network.
Advance your career: Learn critical skills to build your leadership, communication and productivity.
Discover Georgetown faculty & alumni authors: Many of the authors selected will be members of the Georgetown community! Support our Georgetown writers and researchers sharing their expertise!
Make time for reading: Did you know business people who read at least seven business books per year earn over 230% more than people who read just one book per year?1 Joining one of our book clubs gives you the opportunity to read more and enjoy all the benefits that come with it.
Below are a few examples of the kind of books the group may read. We will vote between several options each period and select a book based on reader interests.
Book clubs will read one book approximately every two months.
Most books will take an average of nine hours to read cover to cover. If you have between 1 and 2 hours a week you should have no problem participating in discussions and completing the book within the timeframe.
By joining the a virtual book club you are not committing to reading every book, you have the flexibility to read each book and join the discussion based on your interest and your schedule.
No, the book clubs will be entirely online. You can participate anywhere you have internet access and on days and times that are convenient for you.
Participation is free for Georgetown alumni and friends and is a benefit of the Georgetown University Alumni Association.
Check out your local library or bookstore, order online, or even listen via audio – whichever you prefer!
A moderator from PBC Guru will manage the online discussion forum, posing questions to the book clubs, sharing relevant articles and facilitating conversation about topics in the book. Members are encouraged to post and share as well. This format allows for ongoing conversation and makes it easy for readers to connect with each other through the forums.
We are using private forums to host the virtual book clubs so it's easy to connect with fellow alumni. During our sign up process, you will enter the information to auto-generate your profile. After you complete the sign up, we'll send you a link to the forum and you can begin to post right away!
