How It Works

We have partnered with PBC Guru to create an online University of Glasgow Alumni Book Club exclusively available to Glasgow graduates.

Five books are selected per year by alumni members which will cover a range of genres and interests. The Book Club will connect through a private forum where members can discuss the current book and share ideas with each other. A dedicated Book Club moderator will lead discussions, share insightful analysis, ask questions and suggest additional content, ensuring a great experience for all.

There is no requirement to participate in each book, you can jump in and out of the programme as you wish. Taking part is completely free - just purchase, borrow or download a copy of the book to enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often will books be read, what is the time commitment and what are the expectations?

We plan to start the book club by reading one book every 2- 3 months. The texts selected will be lifelong learning, personal growth, novels and other topics and take an average of nine hours to read cover to cover. If you have between 1 and 2 hours a week to read, you should be fine.

Below is our book club reading schedule:

Book 1: 14 October 2021- 16 December 2021

Book 2: 6 January 2022 – 10 March 2022

Book 3: 18 March 2021 – 20 May 2021

Book 4: 26 May 2022 – 18 July 2022

Book 5: 4 August 2022 – 6 October 2022

Will there be any in-person meetings of the book club?

No, the book club will be entirely online. You can participate as much or as little as you like and on days and times that are convenient to you.

Is there any cost to participate?

Participation is free and open to all University of Glasgow alumni.

How are the books selected?

In each reading period members will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred book from a short list of titles.

How do I get the books?

Members can purchase, borrow or download a copy of the book to enjoy.

How do book club discussions work?

The book club will have a moderator from PBC Guru who manages the online discussion forum. The moderator will pose questions to the book club, share relevant articles and facilitate conversation about topics in the book. Members will be encouraged to post and share as well. This format allows for ongoing conversation and makes it easy to connect with each other through the forum.

How do I make a forum profile?

We're using a private forum to host the virtual book club so it's easy to connect with fellow alumni. During the sign-up process, you will enter the information to auto-generate your free profile. After you complete the sign up you’ll receive a link to the forum and you can begin to post right away!
